IT Systems Engineer | Microsoft 365, Identity & Security Lautenbach Recycling and subsidiaries December 2019 – Present
Sole technical owner of infrastructure, security, and identity for a ~200-employee organization operating across three physical sites and four legal entities, with minimal supporting staff.
key initiatives
- Security & identity ownership. Own the organization's security and identity posture end to end. Led incident response for account compromise and phishing events, implemented phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication with Conditional Access, and removed standing administrative privileges in favor of tiered access to prevent lateral movement. Led the organization through PCI DSS compliance via network segmentation and access control redesign, and built the backup, recovery, and patch management program from scratch.
- Identity & device management modernization. Owned a multi-site migration from on-premises Active Directory to Microsoft Entra ID and Intune, covering roughly 200 users across three sites and four legal entities. Sequenced the rollout to avoid business disruption, managed stakeholder communication org-wide, and personally directed technical execution.
- Core business systems modernization. Led selection, vendor coordination, data migration, and staff training for three line-of-business platform replacements: scale-house software, dispatch software, and ERP.
- Enterprise AI adoption. Led an organization-wide Microsoft 365 Copilot rollout covering licensing, deployment, and onboarding, then designed and ran an agentic AI pilot with select teams. Owned change management and workforce AI literacy building throughout.
- ERP implementation rescue and right-sizing. Stepped into a failing ERP implementation that had been initiated without IT involvement and lacked aligned business processes. Took over vendor coordination, platform configuration, and reporting, then made the call that the organization lacked the process maturity to support the platform. Led the migration to a right-sized alternative instead, cutting licensing and administrative overhead by a six-figure amount.
- Acquisition technology integration. Led buy-side technical integration following the acquisition of a regional operator, migrating email and identity, financial systems, and endpoints onto parent infrastructure with no disruption to ongoing operations.
- Cloud data platform migration. Planned and led migration of the on-premises SQL Server database supporting scale-house operations to Azure SQL, coordinating cutover timing across IT and operations stakeholders to avoid business disruption.
- Internal reporting dashboard delivery. Gathered requirements from ownership and operations managers, then directed development of a C#/.NET reporting application using agent-assisted engineering. The application is now used to track material tonnage and support regulatory reporting requirements.
- Organizational transition support. Served as primary technical point of contact during a significant organizational transition, managing stakeholder expectations across internal leadership and external parties while coordinating scoped, access-controlled data sharing.
